So I had a business contact forward me an email of a paid Substack post they thought would interest me. A few paragraphs down, the email has a button saying "Continue reading this post for free, courtesy of newsletter writer." I clicked through, but didn't realize I was signed into my own Substack account on my browser.

Jul 24, 2021 · Substack is more of a tool than a social platform. At least right now. If you already have a WordPress blog, you're actually more advanced than most Substack users. That is, the best use case for Substack, imo, is for people who want to get started in 60 seconds and don't want to fiddle with any tech stuff at all.

Feb 23, 2021 · Sure. With share feature from Substack, it doesn't work either. The conversion occurs, but only for the part of the article that is free for everyone to see. The complete article, which is for paid subscribers only, doesn't get converted. The conversion is perfect when I receive the paid article via email and then just forward to the inbox.

Mar 27, 2023 · A lot of them were substack newsletters. She has never logged in to substack and claims she has not subscribed to any of these newsletter. I went through the process of logging her in to substack, and found there were >400 email lists she has been subscribed to. Seems like substack is a spam factory.

Dec 24, 2023 · I have more than one Substack, I keep them all completely separate from one another as their readerships mostly don’t align. One is intentionally anonymous, so I wouldn’t ever cross-post, but if there was a common ground between the other two I would consider cross-posting from one to another.

Jul 14, 2022 · Substack has barely any discovery mechanism for small newsletters. No point in writing a newsletter if you can't attract any eyeballs. Be specific, you need a niche, a theme if you will, if you write about everything under the sun you're going to have a hard time capturing an audience and your open rate will suffer.

Substack started feeling like Medium where most writers were just writing about how to get popular rather than publishing substantive material. Substack itself spammed my e-mail. I was happy to receive newsletters I'd signed up for, but all the excess became infuriating.

Jul 24, 2021 · It’s very simple. Just start a new substack under the same username. They’ll have a different URL and in no way connect to one another. I write two versions of the same newsletter on two different substack URLs (one in English and another in French). There’s no link between the two, and I hide my username on all newsletters.
