Sep 6, 2024 · Since 1934 the buckskin-clad, rifle toting Mountaineer has been the beloved mascot of WVU. In addition to attending all major sporting events, the mascot is frequently seen around campus and the community.

The West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot has gone through many changes throughout the years, from a fur vest and flannel shirt, to the current buckskins and coon skin cap; however, one thing has never changed – the Mountaineer Rifle.

The seventh Mountaineer Mascot Reunion was held October 27-29, 2022, as part of WVU’s Homecoming festivities. This year’s reunion was attended by 23 former Mountaineers, along with the current Mountaineer, Mary Roush.

To be eligible for initial consideration and continued participation as the West Virginia University Mountaineer, applicants must meet the following criteria: 1) The student must be enrolled as a FULL-TIME undergraduate or graduate student at West Virginia University.

WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEER MASCOT APPLICATION 2020-2021 WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MOUNTAINEER MASCOT? The below responsibilities are excerpted from the Mountaineer Advisory Committee Manual Regulations, which governs the Mountaineer Mascot. • The Mountaineer is limited to serving as the mascot for one (1) year.

Implemented in 2019 as a means to give back to our community due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, our Mountaineer Mascot Blood Drive Program has held nine blood drives to date resulting in 445 blood donors and the saving of 1,335 lives in our community with our efforts.

The Mountaineer Mascot Program will be holding a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross. WVU students can obtain community service hours for (1) donating blood and (2) volunteering to work at the Blood Drive.
