Longtime former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is reportedly in line to interview with a second team.

Seahawks hopefuls may have been wishing for draft-pick compensation in exchange for Carroll, sort of how Sean Payton was traded from New Orleans to Denver two offseasons ago. That won’t happen. Carroll is free to coach elsewhere and the Seahawks wouldn’t benefit from him filling a head coaching vacancy.

The Chicago Bears plan to interview former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll for their head-coaching job Thursday, a league source confirmed Tuesday. ESPN first reported the news. The outlet and others also reported Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys denied the Bears’ request to interview Dallas coach Mike McCarthy for the vacant coaching job.

He is one of more than a dozen coaches the Bears have requested to interview as general manager Ryan Poles seeks to do a deeper dive into the candidate pool than he did when he hired Matt Eberflus in 2022.

The Chicago Bears have completed an interview with former Boston College staffer Drew Petzing for their vacant head coach position. The organization announced it had interviewed Petzing early Thursday morning.
