Justice Department officials are preparing to swear in former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. Pirro, a former New York judge and prosecutor, was named by President Donald Trump last Thursday to a 120-day interim appointment.

By using another interim appointment to fill a vacancy for the top prosecutor in Washington, the White House is bypassing Senate confirmation and potentially claiming expansive authority.
