Police are investigating a shooting in Dorchester Thursday evening which left one person hospitalized, officials said. Officers responded at 7:23 p.m. to a report of a person shot at 40 Columbia Terrace, said Officer Michael Torigian, a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department.

Officers at the scene said the child was taken to the hospital and is in "life-threatening" condition, with the nature of the injury not yet known.

A child who was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after they were found unresponsive has died, officials said. The child had no signs of trauma, according to James Borghesani, a spokesperson for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
