Two top U.S. officials have renewed calls on Russia and Ukraine to reach a peace deal, with one saying there was no clear end in sight to the conflict in Ukraine and the other warning that President Donald Trump needed a breakthrough "very soon".

Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected an attempt from President Trump to strike a peace deal in the Ukraine-Russia war.

The U.S. will no longer mediate peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, the State Department announced Friday. Tammy Bruce, spokesman for State, told reporters that American diplomats would no longer “fly around the world at the drop of a hat” for talks with the two warring countries.

A Russian drone attack late on Thursday set buildings ablaze in Ukraine's southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, killing one person and injuring at least eight, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said.

Russia launched aerial attacks against Ukrainian regions in the east, southwest and center of the country overnight, launching balllistic missiles and more than 100 drones that killed at least two people.
