Matt Carpenter, who gave the Yankees an unexpected jolt in 2022, is retiring after 14 MLB seasons, he announced Tuesday.

Matt Carpenter was an unlikely New York Yankees fan favorite. After opting out of a minor-league contract with the Texas Rangers, Carpenter was hanging out at home when the Yankees threw him a lifeline in May of 2022. He proved that a 36-year-old still has something to offer in baseball.
