North Carolina’s representatives in the U.S. House split on whether to rename the Gulf of Mexico. Now the bill must go before the Senate.

The Republican-led House has passed a bill that would rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and direct federal agencies to update their documents and maps to incorporate the new name.

The House of Representatives passed legislation largely along party lines Thursday morning that would codify President Donald Trump’s executive order
