Ukraine imposed sanctions on former president and opposition politician Petro Poroshenko, including an asset freeze and a ban on withdrawing capital from the country, for what the domestic spy agency said on Thursday were “national security” reasons.

Former President Petro Poroshenko said on Wednesday that Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council had adopted sanctions against him, and he accused current President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of undermining national unity.

President Volodymyr Zelensky approved a National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) decision on Feb. 13 to impose indefinite sanctions on several high-profile politicians, oligarchs, and businessmen.
