Waymo is routing its fleet of autonomous vehicles away from a large swath of San Francisco’s downtown and main transit corridor on Monday as the city prepares for more protests related to raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Autonomous vehicle firm Waymo said it has curtailed its robotaxi service in San Francisco following immigration enforcement protests in the city's Financial District Sunday evening, which led to one of its vehicles being vandalized.
HOW WE GOT HERE: The protests erupted after Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on Friday carried out raids in three locations across L.A., where dozens of people were taken into custody. Newsom called the raids “chaotic federal sweeps” that aimed to fill an “arbitrary arrest quota.”
