The activity at Hawaii's Kilauea volcano started around 4:15 p.m. local time and lasted for several hours, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Kīlauea Volcano's recent eruption features lava fountaining up to 1,000 feet, with USGS monitoring the activity in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.

Lava was visible spouting inside the Kilauea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii on Sunday. The volcano has erupted sporadically since December.
