Hamas will release the Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander held in Gaza as a part of efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and allow humanitarian aid to enter the besieged enclave, a senior Hamas official told Reuters on Sunday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander could possibly be released by Hamas as a gesture to President Trump when he visits the region later this week,

Hamas has said it will release Edan Alexander, an Israeli soldier who holds American citizenship. The group announced on Sunday that the 21-year-old, who is believed to be the last living American hostage in Gaza, will be released as part of ongoing efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire with Israel.
